Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Services

I have a Heroin and/or opiate addiction and I need some extra help managing the cravings so that I can prevent relapse and focus on my treatment and recovery.

In partnership with The Wright Center, which oversees all medical aspects of the program, the Wayne County Drug and Alcohol Commission offers Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for individuals with addiction to heroin and /or other opiate drugs. The individual must meet clinical and medical criteria in order to participate in this specialized program.

The Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program is the use of FDA approved medication in combination with proper level of drug and alcohol treatment and other recovery related services or supports. The Wright Center primarily utilizes three specific medications Suboxone (buprenorphine and naloxone), which is a partial opioid agonist taken orally,  Vivitrol (extended-release injectable naltrexone), which is an opioid antagonist, and Sublocade, which is an extended release injectable buprinorphine. All are designed to assist people in the recovery process from heroin and other opiates by reducing intense cravings to use, which may interfere with successful engagement in treatment and other community recovery supports. Vivitrol can also help with treatment of alcohol use disorder.

The Wayne County Drug and Alcohol Commission’s philosophy on MAT is that medication is only a recovery tool and should not be a stand-alone treatment. Therefore being actively engaged in drug and alcohol treatment, seeing a specialized MAT Case Manager, seeing your MAT Physician, and participation in other recovery related activities are program requirements along with random urine drug screens are stongly encouraged..

There is no charge for the MAT Case Manager’s services and in most cases insurance will cover the doctor’s fee and the medication.  However, if it does not our office will provide partial funding.

If you feel you would benefit form MAT services, please do not hesitate to contact us at (570) 253-6022. Our office hours are Mon-Fri 8:00 to 4:00.
