HONESDALE (JUNE 18, 2020) – The Wayne County Area Agency on Aging set Monday, June 29, as a target date for resuming activities and meals at the three Senior Centers in Honesdale, Hawley and Hamlin. The Northern Wayne group will resume its regular schedule in August.
“We know that this has been a difficult time, and we have been happy to be able to stay connected with some of you through phone calls, drive-thru and Facebook exercise classes,” said Mary Ursich, director of the Area Agency on Aging.
When the centers do reopen, they will not be able to offer all of the previous activities, and a schedule will be posted online and on social media at a later date. “As we move into the next phase – we want you to be aware of the new protocols in place to keep our participants, volunteers, and staff safe,” Ursich explained.
Signs will be posted throughout the center regarding hygiene and social distancing, and steps have been taken to ensure social distancing so participants are asked not to move tables and chairs. There are some restrictions on the number of people using the restrooms and elevator at one time as well as on movement around the building.
Any staff, volunteer or participant who is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 (fever 100+, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, diarrhea, chills/shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell), has been in recent contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or traveled outside of the country within the past 14 days are asked not to enter the Senior Centers.
That agency intends to continue to offer take-out meals at all three centers (11 am to 12 noon with reservations by 1 pm on the prior business day), Facebook Live Chair Exercise (Mondays at 9 am) and check in calls (weekly or biweekly) for those who would prefer this method of participation.
There is a letter, safety protocols and a brief survey of participation available for download online or call the office at 570-253-4262 for a copy.
