[ARCHIVED] Army Corps of Engineers Seeks Comment on Prompton Dam Master Plan

HONESDALE -- The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in Philadelphia expects to update the Prompton Dam and Reservoir Master Plan, last addressed in 1971.

The dam, completed in 1960 along the West Branch Lackawaxen River and less than five miles upstream of Honesdale, formed part of an integrated reservoir flood control system that includes the Jadwin Dam and protects several downstream communities.

The Prompton Dam Project contains approximately 1,500 acres of public lands including the area owned by Pennsylvania and managed as Prompton State Park, which is in addition to the real estate and permanent reservoir owned and managed by the Federal government. The 270-acre Prompton Lake and its surrounding lands provide natural resources and recreational opportunities for the public.

As part of the planning process, USACE seeks comments from the public as well as federal, state and local agencies and officials, particularly if they have identified significant environmental resources or concerns, They are also accepting proposals and plans for other development in the watershed.
