[ARCHIVED] DUI Chares Lead to Lengthy Prison Sentences in Wayne County Court

HONESDALE -- Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell announced the following sentences were handed down by the Judge Janine Edwards in Wayne County Court, Thursday, Sept. : 

SAMANTHA ELIZABETH CLARK, 41, of Scranton was sentenced to undergo incarceration in a State Correctional Institution for a period of not less than 9 months nor more than 5 years for one count of Driving Under the Influence (M1), one count of False Identification to Law Enforcement (M3), one count of Driving While Operating Privilege Suspended/Revoked (S), and one count of Damage Real Property by Operating Motor Vehicle (S). She was also ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, pay a mandatory minimum fine of $1,800.00, participate in and cooperate with the drug and alcohol addiction treatment in accordance with her assessment, and complete the Alcohol Highway Safety Program. The incident occurred on January 19, 2019 in Lake Township.

CHRISTOPHER LOREN JANNER, 32, of Lake Ariel was sentenced to undergo incarceration in the Wayne County Correctional Facility for a period of not less than 90 days nor more than 60 months for one count of Driving Under the Influence – Controlled Substance (M1), one count of Possession of Controlled Substance (M) and one count of Driving While Operating Privilege Suspended/Revoked (S). He was also ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, pay a mandatory minimum fine of $1,700.00, participate in and cooperate with the drug and alcohol addiction treatment in accordance with his assessment, complete the Highway Safety Program, comply with all aftercare and recovery recommendations from your drug and alcohol treatment provider, and obtain employment within 60 days from parole or provide documentation from a doctor precluding him from employment. The incident occurred on April 24, 2021 in Paupack Township.

JOHN EDWARD STRUNK, 27, of Wurtsboro, NY, previously sentenced on March 4, 2021 to undergo incarceration in the Wayne County Correctional Facility for a period of not less than 90 days nor more than 5 years, was resentenced and remanded to the Wayne County Correctional Facility for the remainder of his sentence, which is March 4, 2026. The defendant was found in violation of Parole on July 4, 2021 when he was arrested and failed to notify Parole.

JOSHUA WILLIAM HANNEL, 40, of Lake Ariel was sentenced to undergo incarceration in the Wayne County Correctional Facility for a period of not less than 4 days nor more than 12 months with 6 months probation for one count of Simple Assault (M2), and one count Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (M). He was also ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, pay a mandatory fine of $300.00, participate and cooperate with the drug and alcohol addiction treatment in accordance with his assessment, complete the Alcohol Highway Safety Program, continue with mental health treatment and comply with any recommendations for treatment, attend and complete an anger management program, and maintain employment or provide documentation from a doctor precluding him from employment.

NATASHA MARIE GUTIERREZ, 26, of Honesdale previously sentenced on August 12, 2021 to undergo incarceration in the Wayne County Correctional Facility for a period of not less than 3 days nor more than 23 ½ months, was resentenced and remanded to the Wayne County Correctional Facility for the remainder of her sentence, which is July 27, 2023. The defendant was found in violation of Parole when she failed to report to probation on August 20, 2021.

DANIEL JOSEPH ZEFFER, 58, of Lakeville was sentenced to 36 months probation with 12 months house arrest through the SCRAM program for one count of Driving Under the Influence - Controlled Substance/Impaired Ability (M1). He was also ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, pay a mandatory minimum fine of $2,000.00, participate and cooperate with the drug and alcohol addiction treatment in accordance with his assessment, complete the Alcohol Highway Safety Program, and undergo a mental health evaluation and comply with any recommendations for treatment. The incident occurred on November 25, 2020 in Salem Township.

RICHARD PUGLIESE, 29, of Honesdale was sentenced to 36 months probation with 12 months house arrest through the SCRAM program for one count of Driving Under the Influence - Controlled Substance Schedule II or III-Fentanyl, Methadone, Ketamine, Cocaine (M1). He was also ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, pay a mandatory minimum fine in the amount of $1,500.00, participate and cooperate with the drug and alcohol addiction treatment in accordance with his assessment, complete the Alcohol Highway Safety Program, and complete 25 hours of Community Service. The incident occurred on May 7, 2020 in Honesdale Borough.

CASSANDRA BROOKS, 22, of Honesdale was sentenced to 12 months probation for one count of Criminal Conspiracy – Engaging (M1). She was also ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, pay restitution in the amount of $360.00, continue with mental health treatment and comply with any and all recommendations for treatment, and comply with all directives of Wayne County Children and Youth Services. The incident occurred on February 25, 2021 in Honesdale Borough.

 MICHAEL ANGELO DEFEO, 81, of Paupack was sentenced to 6 months probation for one count of Recklessly Endangering Another Person (M2). He was also ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, and complete an anger management program. The incident occurred on February 24, 2021 in Texas Township.

AMBER LYNN RYAN, 34, of Ashland was sentenced to a fine of $100.00 for one count of Theft of Services – Disposition of Service (S). She was also ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, and pay restitution in the amount of $3,744.88. The incident occurred between May 10, 2017 and November 18, 2017 in Salem Township.
