[ARCHIVED] HHS Teacher Faces Invasion of Privacy Charges

HONESDALE (Jan. 19, 2018) – A Spanish teacher at Honesdale High School faces charges involving taking pictures of female students after he was arrested today.

Wayne County District Attorney Patrick Robinson said Gaspare Nichola Gambino of Honesdale, a teacher in the Wayne Highlands School District since 2015, has been charged with 14 misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy.

In court papers filed Sept. 19, State Trooper Gregory Allen alleged Gambino had been surreptitiously taking numerous close up photographs of the girls’ breasts and private areas under their skirts and dresses. The photos were taken at Honesdale High School in Gambino’s classroom and other school surroundings. Trooper Allen said some of the photos appeared to have been taken from a seated position at Gambino’s desk.

Gambino was arraigned before District Justice Linus Myers and bail was set at $10,000, with conditions of no unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 18 and to surrender his passport. He as placed on administrative leave on Sept. 21.

Gambino is scheduled for an initial appearance at Central Count the Wayne County Courthouse Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 9 a. The State Police continue to investigate the matter and anyone with information should call 570-253-7126.

DA Robinson said, “These allegations are very disturbing and will be vigorously pursued. The Pennsylvania Legislature addressed this very situation when it amended the Invasion of Privacy section of the Crimes Code in 2005.”
