[ARCHIVED] NY Man Receives 7-14 Years in Prison for Fatal DUI Crash

HONESDALE --  Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell, announced today that Anthony Martin Barry, age 60, of Queens NY was sentenced by Wayne County President Judge Janine Edwards to not less than 7 years nor more than 14 years for a DUI crash resulting in the death of Charles Schroedel.

Mr. Barry previously pled guilty to Homicide by Vehicle while DUI and DUI.  This was Mr. Barry’s third (3rd) lifetime DUI conviction (2001 and 2010 priors).   

This crash occurred on May 2, 2021, at the intersection of State Routes 196 and 507, Dreher Township, Wayne County. Mr. Barry’s vehicle turned left into the opposing lane of travel where Mr. Schroedel was riding a Honda PCX scooter.  

Mr. Barry showed several indicators of intoxication.  He was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were glossy, he was having difficulty with his other cards, his speech was heavily slurred and there was an odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage about his breath from several feet away while outside still on the scene of this collision.   

He failed field sobriety tests and a blood test showed he had a BAC of .332%.

District Attorney Howell stated this tragedy took a valued member of his family, workplace and community from us.
