HONESDALE – The Open Enrollment Period for Medicare ends on Dec. 7, and the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging has Apprise Counselors on hand who can help seniors wade through the available plans and what will best serve their needs.
The Apprise staff can help with billing, PACE applications and a myriad of concerns, providing the information seniors need to make educated decisions about their health insurance.
APPRISE educates consumers on how Medicare works, and assists those enrolling into or switching their Medicare Advantage Plan, Medicare Supplement, and/or Part D Plan.
APPRISE counselors can screen you to see if you qualify for the Low Income Subsidy and the Medicare Savings Programs that lower your Medicare costs. You may be able to get help with your Medicare costs if you are single and your monthly income is under $1,436 and total resources (assets) are below $13,440 or you are married and your combined monthly income is under $1,939 and total resources (assets) are below $26,860. Not all income and assets are counted, so even if your income is above the limits, you might qualify.
They can also help you apply for these programs and work to troubleshoot any problems in the application process. Call the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging at 570-253-4262 to make an appointment.
