Wendell Kay is the son of Richard F. Kay and the late Anne M. Kay. He has resided in Wayne County most of his life and now lives in Honesdale with his wife Karen (Staff Pharmacist, Wayne Memorial) and their daughter, Maureen. Their daughter, Dr. Susan Granquist and her husband Timothy live in Berlin Township and their son, Kevin, is a resident of New Jersey.
Wendell attended Honesdale Catholic School and graduated from Honesdale High. He received a B.A. in History from East Stroudsburg State and a law degree from Ohio Northern University. Since 1981, he has maintained a general legal practice in Northeast Pennsylvania. He previously served as a court appointed custody and divorce master and was a court appointed guardian for hundreds of children.
From 1987-91 Wendell served as a Honesdale Borough council member. He is a former township solicitor for Berlin, Damascus and Sterling townships and chaired the Honesdale Borough Civil Service Commission.
Commissioner Kay is a lector and former Finance Committee chair for St. John’s R.C. parish. He is a member and former Board Chair of the Wayne County YMCA and belongs to the Wayne County Historical Society and Wayne -Pike Farm Bureau. He also serves on the statewide Human Services Committee for the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP).
Always an advocate for youth sports, Wendell has coached recreational basketball, softball and soccer for boys and girls. He was a girls and boys travel soccer coach and a volunteer assistant soccer coach for the Honesdale Boys Varsity program.
