Christmas Bureau Sets Sign-up Dates for Holiday Gift Program

New and gently used children's gift items await distribution day in the Park Street Cafeteria las

HONESDALE (Oct. 10, 2018) -- The Wayne County Children’s Christmas Bureau provides assistance to low income families by purchasing holiday gifts for their children. This year, sign-up dates have been set for mid-October.

To sign up, the family member with physical custody of the children must provide photo identification, a current utility bill (the last 30 days) to show proof of Wayne County residency, and Social Security numbers for all of the children between birth and age 16.

The Wayne County Children’s Christmas Bureau sends out “elves” to the shopping for each individual child, so it is best to prepare a wish list including clothing and shoe sizes, favorite sport or team, etc.

Sign-ups will once again be held at the Chamber of the Northern Poconos Community Room located in the Wayne County Visitor’s Center, 32 Commercial Street Honesdale, and will be held on:

  • Monday, Oct. 15, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Tuesday, Oct. 16, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Friday, Oct. 19, 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Monday, Oct. 22, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Wednesday, Oct. 24, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Distribution day will be held at the Park Street Complex Cafeteria at 648 Park Street, Honesdale on Sunday, Dec. 9, 9 am to 1 pm.

In 2017, the WCCCB served more than 150 families and nearly 300 Wayne County children.  The generosity of the entire community is a key factor in enabling this wonderful community-based program to succeed.

In addition to monetary donations, and donations of new and gently used items the WCCCB Board reminds everyone that they can “Adopt A Family.” A family, organization, group, club, or even a communal gathering of friends can "Adopt A Family" for Christmas.  Your generosity will help make the holiday season bright for the families using the Wayne County Children’s Christmas Bureau.

The good feelings you generate will last well beyond the holiday season. This is a truly tangible way to bring special meaning back to the holiday season. Please join your neighbors in this heart-warming community project for our children. Call or e-mail as soon as possible and say, "We want to adopt a family this Christmas!" The Bureau can be reached at 570-470-2721 or
